We teach students to place human agency, dignity, and well-being at the centre of every AI system they design or deploy. Our approach is grounded in the EU framework for Human-Centered AI: technology must be designed by humans, for humans, in genuine partnership with humans. In an era of agentic AI, we insist that human oversight and critical thinking take precedence over technological capability. We educate practitioners to only use AI where it adds clear value and benefits people, while also equipping them with the knowledge and tools to identify, assess, and mitigate the risks and unintended consequences that AI systems may pose.
Human-centered AI: designed by, for, and with people
AI for all: leaving no one behind
AI affects everyone, and its development must reflect that reality. We champion social justice, gender inclusivity, solidarity, equity, and diversity in our target audience, the content of our programmes and the composition of our community. We teach AI skills to both ICT specialists and students from non-technical disciplines. We see accessibility, sustainability and social impact as crucial design requirements. We teach students to develop AI systems that empower people, enhance human capabilities, and foster meaningful collaboration between humans and machines. We thereby deliver socially conscious practitioners who build technology significant to society and labour market, without leaving anyone behind.
Responsible AI: ethics built in
We commit to building AI that is reliable, responsible, and trustworthy, and fully aligned with legal and ethical standards. Ethical values and integrity are not afterthoughts: they are woven into every module, project, and assessment from the very beginning. We teach that AI models can only be created and used with human data when there is explicit consent from subjects. We recognise our responsibility to the planet: AI must be sustainable, climate-conscious and support the welfare of animals and nature. Our graduates will not only understand algorithms, but also the social, ethical, legal, environmental, and technical challenges that arise where technology and society meet.
Universal values as the compass
Our work is rooted in widely shared human values; democracy, human dignity, individual freedom, equality and the rule of law, as reflected in Article 2 of the Treaty of the European Union. We stand up for AI that is developed and governed under democratic oversight rather than given up to unregulated commercial or geopolitical interests. As a pan-European network, while engaging with global partners, we set cross-border standards for human-centered AI education, connecting private and public sectors, bridging borders, disciplines and cultures, and fostering intercultural collaboration.
Applied AI: from research to real-world application
Great research only makes a difference when it is put to use. We focus on the implementation of human-centered AI in the real world—turning cutting-edge AI into reliable, safe, and practical solutions. Our programmes connect research excellence to current industry practice, ensuring that the latest innovations do not remain at the margins but become part of everyday applications, decision-making, and professional workflows. In this way, we bridge the gap between experimental breakthroughs and widely used, trusted systems. We promote open-source development, wide dissemination and cross-border collaboration, to ensure responsible AI becomes a tool with real impact and reaches those who need it most.
